Ascension
Darkness. All his world was darkness. For years he labored in the dark, black subterranean caverns. Disregarding any exhaustion, he pressed doggedly on, stripping the rock of its jewels.
And then, one moment in time, something changed. A man came to him in the dark and spoke:
“You are too old. Your work here is done.”
Something sparkled inside him. Done! Suddenly invigorated, he silently wormed up, up to the surface. As he blinked in the unfamiliar sunlight, something caressed his cheek. Somehow he knew its name.
Wind.
